Problem
Fencing clubs needed a management system built for their own workflows (athlete profiles, tournament brackets, live scoring), not a generic sports platform. Sabra was built on the LabraGo framework to prove it could handle domain-specific modeling (fencers, bouts, tournaments) as well as it handles content management, while still giving clubs CMS-style tools for news, announcements, and club information.
Architecture
I led system design, data modeling, and technical decisions on a small development team, using the same GraphQL-on-Go stack as LabraGo, with PostgreSQL for persistence and role-based access separating coaches, athletes, and administrators. The platform covers member management (athlete profiles with competition history, membership renewals, contact and emergency information, skill progression), tournament and event management (scheduling, registration, bout pairing, bracket management, live scoring, results tracking), and club administration (coaching and staff management, training schedules, equipment inventory, financial management). Real-time updates drive live scoring, tournament brackets, athlete performance analytics, and a historical record of past competitions.
Outcome
Sabra runs in production for fencing clubs and associations, tournament organizers, coaches and instructors, club administrators, and competitive fencers, handling day-to-day tournament and member management. It also validated LabraGo's flexibility for domain-specific applications well beyond traditional content management.
